Im selben Jahr arbeitete er als\nBakteriologe im Dienst der Bulgarischen Armee w\u00e4hrend des Balkankrieges. Im\nErsten Weltkrieg tat er Dienst als Medizinoffizier der \u00d6sterreichischen \u2013\nUngarischen Armee und war mit der Leitung eines medizinischen Labors betraut.\nEr kam in Bosnien, Russland, der T\u00fcrkei und Pal\u00e4stina zum Einsatz. Nach dem Ende\ndes Ersten Weltkrieges arbeitete er von 1918 bie 1921 als Pathologe am zweiten\nWiener Milit\u00e4rkrankenhaus. Von 1921 bis 1936 war er Laborleiter an der zweiten\nUniversit\u00e4tsfrauenklinik der Universit\u00e4t Wien. Arbeitete an einigen akribischen\nStudien zu Geb\u00e4rmuttertumoren und entwickelte dabei seinen Iod \u2013 Test. Die\nErgebnisse wurden 1927 in deutscher und 1933 in englischer Sprache publiziert.\nNach ihm ist ein Test auf Tumorzellen benannt.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aufgrund der\nBedrohung durch den aufkommenden Nationalismus (Schiller war j\u00fcdischer\nAbstammung), emigrierte er 1937 mit seiner Frau und seinen beiden j\u00fcngeren\nT\u00f6chtern in die USA. Dort nahm er 1937 und 1938 die T\u00e4tigkeit als Laborleiter\nam j\u00fcdischen Krankenhaus von New York auf, von 1938 bis 1944 war er als\nDirektor der Abteilung f\u00fcr anatomische Pathologie am Cook Country Krankenhaus\nin Chicago t\u00e4tig. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laut\nEigendefinition ist Schiller Mediziner, Offizier und Sammler von\nM\u00e4rchenliteratur. \u00dcbt zu seinem Vergn\u00fcgen die Zeichenkunst und hat zu einigen\nPublikationen den Buchschmuck geliefert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Erschwerend zu den Recherchen \u00fcber den K\u00fcnstler, ist das Bestehen eines zweiten Dr. Walter Schiller. Beide waren \u00c4rzte und Gyn\u00e4kologen, beide j\u00fcdisch.\u00a0 Zeitweise im selben Spital in Wien besch\u00e4ftigt. Der \u201efalsche\u201c Dr. Walter Schiller ist am 27. M\u00e4rz 1926 geboren, und nach England ausgewandert, verheiratet mit Bertha Tugendhat.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery aligncenter columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3
